Stagecoach Festival has increasingly veered in a ’90s alt-rock direction, with Hootie & the Blowfish among the big names to play the country event this year. During the Darius Rucker-led group’s set, they expanded into classic hip-hop by bringing out Public Enemy to deliver a message that likely went over attendees’ heads.
Chuck D and Flavor Flav joined Hootie during the band’s cover of Buffalo Springfield’s protest song “For What It’s Worth,” turning it into a medley with their own “He Got Game.” Then, the duo delivered a commanding rendition of “Fight the Power.”
Referring to “Fight the Power,” Rucker told the Los Angeles Times that “it’s a good place for the song” with “everything going on in the world these days.”
