It's been almost exactly three years since Pittsburgh shoegazers Feeble Little Horse released their excellent sophomore album Girl With Fish. Just last week, the band announced plans to follow that LP with a new one called bitknot. Now, just a few days after that announcement, bitknot is out in the world, and it rocks.
bitknot is Feeble Little Horse's first LP since the 2025 departure of founding guitarist Ryan Walchonski, who now leads Aunt Katrina. Remaining band members Sebastian Kinsler, Lydia Slocum, and Jake Kelley wrote, produced, and recorded bitknot at their homes in Pittsburgh. In a press release, the band says, "The album art is based on the coincidental core memory matrix, which was used in old computers to store memory/access information using 0s and 1s. Each core, or 'bit,' is accessed through the grid of wires, like a knot that stores secret details and memories."
I wouldn't really call bitknot a shoegaze record, despite Feeble Little Horse's general affiliation with the genre. That sound is part of what they do, but I also hear echoes of glitch, folk, hyperpop, and '90s alt-rock. The whole thing works as bleary, downbeat, internal pop music. It's inventive and reassuring at the same time. In addition to the LP, Feeble Little Horse just announced a tour that'll take them across North America and Europe over the rest of the year. Below, stream the album and check out their dates.
