Jack Black is already eyeing up his next video game movie – a live-action adaptation of the Yakuza series.

Jack Black voiced Bowser in The Super Mario Bros. Movie and returns for the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy sequel. He also appeared as Steve in 2025’s A Minecraft Movie.

In a new interview, Black has now revealed he wants to star in a live-action adaptation of crime beat ‘em up series Yakuza. “I’m going to throw my hat in that ring,” Black told Screenrant. “I don’t know if there [are] any parts for me, like a portly American, but talk to me. Sega, give me a jingle.”

Amazon Prime Video did release a live-action adaptation of Yakuza in 2024 but Like A Dragon: Yakuza was met with middling reviews and a second season has never been greenlit. A film adaptation hasn’t been confirmed either.

The original Yakuza game was heavily inspired by Japanese yakuza films and went on to spawn more than 20 sequels, spin-offs and remakes. The most recent, Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii, was released in February last year.

The long-running series has previously included parodies of Michael Jackson (Miracle Johnson) Lady Gaga (Daddy Papa) and Steven Spielberg (Stephen Spining). In 2024, Sega reportedly sent out a survey to some fans asking them what other celebrities they wanted to see involved in future Yakuza games – with Jack Black part of the shortlist alongside Billie Eilish, Dr. Dre, Keanu Reeves, Eminem, Ozzy Osbourne and more.

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s next major release is time-hopping adventure game Stranger Than Heaven, which will reportedly feature Snoop Dogg.

Meanwhile, Jack Black’s set to return for A Minecraft Movie sequel alongside Danielle Brooks (Dawn), Matt Berry (Villager), Jennifer Coolidge (Marlene) and Jason Momoa (Garrett ‘The Garbage Man’ Garrison). Kirsten Dunst was recently confirmed to be playing Alex in The Minecraft Movie sequel after joking about wanting to do projects that paid “piles of cash” while Ariana Grande fans believe she’s been cast in the film after following Black on Instagram.

In other news, a remake of The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time and a brand new Star Fox game are set to come to Nintendo Switch 2 this year, according to a new report.
