Sturgill Simpson kept his new Johnny Blue Skies album Mutiny After Midnight off streaming services at first, but, as promised, the album went live at DSPs this week with a bonus "Whiter Shade Of Pale" cover. That means a lot of people are hearing the new tunes for the first time and are therefore learning about Simpson's sexual/political lyrical exploits, like the part on opening track "Make America Fuk Again" where he declares, "I got that Hunter Biden energy/ I'll make a hooker fuck around and fall in love."
Biden, a known fan of acts like Fakemink and Fleet Foxes, has been quite active on Twitter lately. Monday, someone on the platform asked him if he was aware of the Johnny Blue Skies name-check, to which Biden replied, "By far the coolest thing to ever happen. Sturgill is my favorite." Responding to a different tweet about the lyric, Biden offered more extensive thoughts on Simpson and why he rules:
So Sturgill Simpson is the greatest singer song writer out there right now in my opinion. I’ve been obsessed with his music and message since Meta Modern Sounds in Country Music. Turtles All the Way Down is one of my favorite songs ever. When I was in the early days of my recovery he released Sound and Fury with the anime on Netflix and it played in the background as I painted almost everyday. All that and his cover of “In Bloom” may be the best cover of any cover ever. I love Sturgill.
As it happens, Paul Rudd big-upped "Turtles All The Way Down" recently too. During a Today interview last week promoting his new music-focused movie Power Ballad, Rudd told Savannah Guthrie he likes doing country songs at karaoke. Specifically, he noted that he's done "Turtles All The Way Down" many times. "That'll really set a mood," Guthrie said, to which Rudd replied, "It does set a mood." Their exchange implies that they've been part of the same karaoke party before, which is fun to think about.
Rudd, by the way, just reprised his I Love You, Man "slappin' da bass" character for a video to be played at Rush's reunion tour. Watch his Sturgill shout-out below.

— Hunter Biden (@HunterBiden) June 9, 2026Biden is also apparently a John Summit fan. After Summit shared a video of Biden with the caption "if u can overcome crack addiction u can lead a country hunter biden for president," Biden thanked him and expressed interest in attending one of his shows. Summit then invited him to be a "backstage baddie."
