L’Rain Announces New Album fata morgana: Hear “soulless cycle”

1 hour ago 3

We heard from L'Rain a few weeks ago when she guested on a new Tasha track. Today Taja Cheek is ready to announce her own new album. Fata Morgana, the follow-up to 2023's I Killed Your Dog, is coming out in August. Cheek created the album with longtime collaborators Ben Chapoteau-Katz and Andrew Lappin, and its excellent lead single is out now.

That would be "soulless cycle," a song that sounds like serenity in the midst of nonstop explosions. The track begins at a low simmer, with Cheek's vocal gently spiraling amidst a relatively calm backdrop. Soon, bombastic drums and guitars consume everything, but the beauty at the eye of the storm remains. It sounds like a triumphant breakthrough during a moment of deep reflection, a No Age song breaking out at a new age retreat.

In other words, it's awesome. I can't wait to see it performed live someday. In the meantime, we can all enjoy "soulless cycle" via director Mackai Sharp's music video. Watch below.
