Wild Pink recently alerted fans to the exciting news that a new album called Still Coming Down was in the pipeline. Today we get the official announcement along with a killer lead single to go with it.
As previously reported, Still Coming Down will be out in August, was recorded at Asheville's Drop Of Sun studio with producer Alex Farrar, and features some impressive guests. Guitarist Meg Duffy (aka Hand Habits) is on there, as are several members of the Wednesday/MJ Lenderman crew, including Landon George, Xandy Chelmis, and Jake Lenderman himself.
Wild Pink toured with Lenderman while supporting 2024's great Dulling The Horns, and you can hear a distinct Lenderman influence on Still Coming Down lead single "Round Of Applause At The End Of The World." John Ross already steered his band in a more rocking direction on the last album; here, he keeps the energy level high while sprinkling in some Southern-fried slacker rock flavor. There's talk of various Kennedy assassinations ("Sirhan Sirhan was likely hypnotized when he shot Bobby Kennedy in the hotel kitchen"), an impressive onslaught of twangy and distorted strings, and a discontented refrain: "I don’t know what my idea of fun is anymore."
Personally, my idea of fun sounds something like "Round Of Applause At The End Of The World." The song arrives with a video by Wes Sterrs, the first of four chapters designed to draw viewers into the world of Still Coming Down. Watch below.
