Punk supergroup Fake Names has announced their third album, Punk Ruins, out October 23rd via Epitaph Records. Alongside news of the album comes the lead single “Until It’s Normal.” Fake Names consists of singer Dennis Lyxzén (Refused), guitarists Brian Baker (Minor Threat, Bad Religion) and Michael Hampton (S.O.A., Embrace, The Faith), bassist Johnny Temple (Girls Against Boys, Soulside), and new drummer Mario Rubalcaba (Rocket From The Crypt, OFF!). “Until It’s Normal” bounces back and forth between a glam rock-tinged punk verses and a bright Big Star-style power pop chorus. The punk plaudits of the group are on full display, with a killer arrangement made of interlocking simple parts that builds an almost operatic rock sensibility without losing its street-level punk energy. It’s the kind of song that would make Alex Chilton and the early wave of rough-edged alternative rock groups emerging from the punk and hardcore underground he inspired proud.
