Showcation delivered summer camp flavor, fun-loving moments, and festival theatrics at Maryland’s Camp Ramblewood this past weekend.
Another chapter of Showcation has come to a close as campers return home with tan lines, trinkets, and an influx of new friend requests. Marketed as “Summer Camp Reimagined,” the three-day extravaganza at Darlington, MD‘s Camp Ramblewood has quickly become a fan favorite for adventure seekers and veteran ravers alike.
Returning to camp for my second year evoked the same feelings as returning to my favorite childhood summer camp. The sense of nostalgia and excitement was palpable as I arrived at camp on Friday. Right off the bat, I was greeted with familiar faces from last year, making it feel like a true homecoming.
While I already had an idea of what was in store for the weekend, this year’s edition of Showcation felt like summer camp on steroids. It was bigger, louder, and more eccentric than ever, as a slew of new faces joined the family of oddballs that make up the festival’s devoted community.
In the final hours of the weekend, I began to reflect on what made this year feel so much larger than life. Three things stand out as the driving factors of the rowdy newcomer’s success as the ultimate kickoff to summer.

Showcation shines with its unique daytime offerings, giving campers a taste of summer camp magic with a twist. While they offer camp classics like canoeing and dodgeball, I loved being able to try my hand at aerial hoop and pop in for Beatbox 101 with champion beatboxer Kenny Urban.
Saturday’s Wet Hot American Pool Party was a highlight of the weekend as campers flocked to the pool for a respite from the beaming sun. The sweet sounds of house music filled the air while attendees lounged on pool floaties, and in the background, a massive slip-and-slide had them sliding their way into summer. Come nightfall, Punk Rock Battle of the Bands had opened up a circle pit on the lawn of Ur Mom’s House, and I put on a tragically bad performance in front of a captive crowd as I competed in Min In To Win It.
While there was plenty of fun to be had by following the activity schedule, many of the best finds came from taking the time to explore with curiosity. The Project X Party at Ur Mom’s House was packed with surprises within various rooms of the house, including a birthday room where clowns somehow threw me a birthday party three days late and a tattoo parlor where bass DJ Super Future got tatted by the weekend’s end.
The pirates at Art Front Side Quest offered puzzling quests for explorers, with the opportunity to land on the leaderboard and become part of secret clubs as you completed more quests. For campers with an observant eye, an invitation to a wedding on Sunday was gifted to those who discovered easter eggs strewn across the campground. Marrying on the Front Porch, the wedding ended with the couple and guests dancing to “I Love It” by Icona Pop.

Beyond the music and activities, Showcation stands out among the pack with its vibrant and diverse community. Helping connect like-minded individuals, the festival allows campers to join one of four teams — Fluffernutter, Ramblesquawk, Laserface, or Snugglebug — which quickly become family throughout the weekend’s festivities.
While the event encourages mingling through its group activities, randomized bunk assignments, and communal dining hall, Showcation campers take it upon themselves to go the extra mile and make everyone feel included. From random conversations while eating solo to dancing with strangers at Daniel Allan‘s explosive set, there wasn’t a moment I felt alone. In fact, I felt more seen than ever.
Throughout the weekend, I had more conversations than I have at any festival I’ve ever attended. I got to know people from all walks of life who decided to take a chance on a small festival. Whether it was a solo camper who decided to full send her first festival, a pair of friends who threw a well-executed party in Cabin M the final night, or the lively couple who needed a break from their routine as parents, everyone who attended played an integral role in creating lifelong memories for the Showcation community as a whole.

This year’s camp counselors were rowdy and ready to create chaos at every move. Belly flop contests, baby birding drinks, and inciting dance battles were just some of the ways the counselors got campers involved in winning points for their teams. Dedicated to her job, a counselor even walked around for 45 minutes with a coin in her mouth, hoping to gift someone points for noticing.
The addition of A.J. Kirsch, lead host for Banana Ball, and Summer Fling acting as the Showcation house band amped up the theatrics for Camp Olympics‘ opening ceremonies. Leaders of the four teams really hammed it up, bringing infectious energy each day as they coached their respective teams through a variety of games. In the end, Ramblesquawk came out victorious, ending Snugglebug’s two-year run as champs.

As the dust settles on the third edition of Showcation, it’s clear that James Corcoran‘s passion project has evolved into something meaningful for everyone who has had the opportunity to be part of it. It’s hard to truly put into words how special an experience the weekend provides.
Showcation delivers the best of both worlds, blending insane festival acts like Baauer and IN PARALLEL with immersive summer camp vibes that make it one-of-a-kind. It’s a place where you can uncover the version of yourself you’ve been hiding, surrounded by individuals who will support you along the way. At Showcation, you’re never too weird, too much, too different — you’re welcomed with open arms exactly as you are.
When asking attendees if they’d return for another year, I received a resounding yes, with many purchasing tickets for 2027 before saying goodbye to Camp Ramblewood. If you’re looking for an opportunity to meet new people, discover something new, and find a festival where PLUR is alive and well, Showcation is calling your name. Pick up the call.
