Peter Kay gatecrashes BBC Weather report: “I’m covering Chester!”

Comedian Peter Kay crashed a live BBC weather report, making jokes alongside present Molly Brewer. The Phoenix Nights creator and stand-up comedian was on the corporation’s North West Tonight news show to promote his forthcoming charity event at Blackpool’s Opera House next month, and following the discussion snuck over to the weather report to cause hijinks. “I’m covering Chester!” he joked as he crouched in front of the map of Britain, before presenting to cover himself from the rain that was being forecast. Chaos ensued when Brewer offered Kay her “clicker” remote, only for him to press the wrong button, before he mistook a picture of a leaf for the town of Cleveleys in Lancashire. He then leaned against the map of Britain, joking: “I’ve got me hand in the sea, Molly!” The presenter chuckled throughout, as Kay encouraged viewers to “get your central heating on now” as the temperatures get milder heading into September. The appearance was reminiscent of 2011, when Kay interrupted Brewer’s predecessor, the late Dianne Oxberry’s forecast.
