Open Mike Eagle & Kenny Segal – “She Swear I’m Colorblind” (Feat. billy woods)

We're two weeks out from the release of underground rap great Open Mike Eagle and producer Kenny Segal's new collaborative album. We've been calling it DOOMED!, but per the cover art, the full title is DOOMED!: Rap Songs About A Relationship That Ends In Every Possible Universe. That's the vibe here. I have heard the record, and it's excellent. Even when friends show up to the party, though, this album is not a party. Instead, we're in the insular post-breakup zone.We have already posted the early singles "Unfinished Concrete Initials" and "Watching A Movie Called Freedom By Myself." Both songs are great, and the former features Hemlock Ernst, rap alter-ego of Future Islands' Samuel T. Herring. Today, they share another new song that features another prominent Kenny Segal collaborator. This one is called "She Swear I'm Colorblind," and the guest is billy woods, who made the twin masterpieces Hiding Places and Maps with Segal and whose Backwoodz label is releasing DOOMED! On "She Swear I'm Colorblind," both Open Mike Eagle and billy woods get poetically ruminative over heartbreak. It's an extremely low-key track, with mournful jazz horns floating all throughout.
