Leon Bridges has announced the new album ‘Happiness Anytime’, and released the first four songs from the record. Check them out below.
The new record from the American singer songwriter is set for release on September 15 via Columbia, and is produced by J Lloyd-Watson and Lydia Kitto of British trio Jungle. Visit here to pre-order.
The announcement comes as the singer has been gradually hinting at the new LP, holding last minute pop-up performances in Paris, Cannes, Los Angeles, London, and Montreux Jazz Festival. The London show was held last night (Thursday July 16) in Camden, and Bridges is expected to play there again tonight (17).
With the new album, Bridges is expected to make nods towards the warm, sombre sound of his 2015 album ‘Coming Home’, but blend this with the lightheartedness and adventure seen in his collaborations with Khruangbin.
Bridges is sharing the 12-song tracklist gradually as three EPs, each containing four songs. The first one is out today, and features songs ‘Light The Way,’ ‘Tears of Joy,’ ‘Illusion,’ and ‘Your Love Is Electric.’ Check them out above.
Speaking about the upcoming album, Bridges shared that he wants the feel-good album to serve almost as an antidote for those feeling burned out and disillusioned by the world around them.
“For me, happiness is not a feeling that you chase,” the artist said,“I want this album to be something that lingers with people and lingers in people’s bones. There’s this feeling that we have to fix the problems of the world; you feel inadequate or it can be debilitating. My role is to be light. I hope that comes across with this album.”
As well as being written alongside Lloyd-Watson and Kitto over just a few sessions, Bridges was also Pino Palladino (D’Angelo, Adele) in the studio to complete the record.
In other Leon Bridges news, last year the artist teamed up with Norah Jones to share the festive single, ‘This Christmas I’m Coming Home’, which made nods to his breakout single ‘Coming Home’.
His new record will mark the follow-up to his fourth studio album, ‘Leon’, which arrived in 2024 and was described by the singer as “a long-time coming”.
