"Soften" follows previous singles “Echoes”, “Kairos”, “Scrolls”, and “Shell”. Inspired by Ruth Allen’s book Weathering, the track combines saxophone from Misch with piano by by Marysia Osu, drums, and a medieval hurdy gurdy symphonia by Thomas Fournil of Idrisi Ensemble.
Speaking about the single, Misch says: “Featuring medieval symphonie, a hurdy-gurdy, droning beneath the surface, this song was partly inspired by a pilgrimage I made to the extraordinary giant balancing stones on Bodmin Moor, called the Cheesewrings. These granite rock formations are a natural geological phenomenon, their edges weathered into softened curves over time through the harshest of storms.”
