The record is presented as a set of folk tales written, of course, from the perspective of the Yodeling Astroman, a character the band say appeared in deep space shortly after the big bang and later became absorbed by human contradictions. It was recorded, mixed, and co-produced by Scott Gordon (who's worked with Alanis Morissette) in Virginia Beach and Charlottesville. Lead singer Louis Smith says "Don’t Wanna Be Gone", the first single, began as a reflection on touring life, taking in themes of anxiety and displacement. "It’s a song about wanting to stay in the present moment despite everything happening all the time," he says. While writing the track, Smith drew on footage of the Asheville floods and California wildfires, along with Paul Simon albums and Mad Max: Fury Road. The band are currently on the road in the US, their tour running through the end of the year across the Eastern half of the country. No UK dates have been announced. The album release show takes place on 23 October at The Jefferson in Charlottesville, co-billed with Big Something.
