Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath) Announces Retirement from Live Performances

Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Glenn Hughes — known for his work in Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Black Country Communion, and Trapeze, among other bands — has announced his retirement from touring and live performances. The decision comes after the 75-year-old musician learned he must undergo another open-heart surgery. Hughes stated via social media, “This past year, I’ve had some health issues. The results from numerous MRIs, CT scans and an echocardiogram have alerted my medical team that I need another open-heart surgery. I really have no option and no choice as health is my number one priority. Grateful to have been chosen with a life full with the gift of music… Thank you for walking beside me.” Hughes had canceled his spring US tour earlier this year for an unnamed medical issue. His last live performance was on May 30th with his band the Dead Daisies, with whom he has recorded two studio albums. The performance came under the name the Purple Daisies, with a special set devoted half to Deep Purple material.
