Glen Hansard was memorialized at a funeral held in Dublin on Thursday. During the ceremony, Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder joined Hansard’s Swell Season collaborator Markéta Irglová for a duet of “The Song of Good Hope” in tribute to the late musician.

Vedder and Hansard collaborated frequently for more than 15 years. In addition to regularly opening for Vedder, Hansard contributed to Vedder’s second solo album, 2011’s Ukulele Songs, as well as the soundtrack to the 2021 film Flag Day. Hansard was also a member of Vedder’s backing band, The Earthlings, which accompanied him on tour in 2022.

Hansard was also close to Vedder’s daughter, Olivia, referring to him as “an uncle, collaborator, friend, bonus dad, and favorite singer.”

Irglová collaborated with Hansard in The Swell Season and co-starred with him in the 2007 film Once, earning an Academy Award for Best Original Song for their song “Falling Slowly.”
