Big Thief Play Setlist Made Entirely of Upcoming Triple Album, Horsepower

Big Thief played their forthcoming triple album Horsepower in its entirety at their August 22nd show at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. See the full set below. During the 29-song set, the indie folk trio were joined on certain numbers by renowned Americana artists, Gillian Welch, Lucinda Williams, and Iris DeMent, who will be featured on the new album. Welch joined the band for nine songs and DeMent sat in on 12 tunes. Williams took the stag for one song during the encore. Guitarist Greg Leisz and pedal steel player Russ Pahl sat in, and Richard Bowden, Hannah Read, and Zosha Warpeha joined on fiddle. While the setlist of all yet-to-be-released material was certainly a surprise, some of the songs have been played live in the past. The band had previously played the album’s title track live as well as the song “Carry.” A couple of songs, such as “Happiness,” have been part of frontwoman Adrianne Lenker’s solo repertoire.
