Anne Hathaway’s new song “Burial” has nothing to do with the London electronic musician of the same name. The actor co-wrote the song with Charli XCX, Jack Antonoff, and George Daniel for the new A24 movie, Mother Mary. It’s the first single on the Mother Mary soundtrack, which is due out April 17 via A24 Music. The rest of the album will include original songs from Charli XCX, Jack Antonoff, and FKA twigs—who also stars in the movie. Listen to “Burial” below.
The David Lowery-directed movie follows a pop star (Anne Hathaway) who reunites with her estranged friend and stylist (Michaela Coel). This is not the first time Hathaway has released a song. Her catalog includes music for movie soundtracks Río (“Hot Wings (I Wanna Party)”) and Les Misérables (“I Dreamed A Dream”).
Mother Mary: Greatest Hits will be one of several recent films Charli XCX has contributed her sonic vision to. Most recently, she released a Wuthering Heights soundtrack and played herself in her own mockumentary, The Moment.
