Angela Autumn – “Heavy Tobacco”

About a month ago, Angela Autumn released "Mountain Stream," the lead single from her new album Believer. We liked that one a lot, so I'm happy to report she's got another tune out today. The Nashville-based artist, who also duetted with Deloyd Elze on the mirage-like country track "George Jones" this year, plays a raw, off-kilter version of roots rock that would go well with Zoh Amba's singer-songwriter material. On the new "Heavy Tobacco," she lets her voice scrape against against your ears as the hook burrows its way into your brain.In a statement, she interpreted the lyrics:This is a song about the tobacco spirit. In many cultures, particularly American indigenous, tobacco is regarded for its purification abilities. I don’t think many folks see tobacco as "healthy"; quite the opposite. The message is that anything positive can become harmful when abused. It’s me reflecting upon choices that were necessary but carried both positive and negative consequences.Fame feels like something to be chased, with a time limit on our actualization.
